The Ministry of Justice confirms that Mr. Martins Alexander, an American citizen and self-identified engineer, was arrested and charged in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on October 25, 2023 for money laundering and visa violations.
Mr. Alexander entered the country on a tourist visa but subsequent investigations led by the Turkish Cypriot Police Force revealed irregular financial activities linked to international laundering operations. Authorities acted swiftly to detain him while a full inquiry was conducted.
Following due legal process, Mr. Alexander was found guilty of the charges brought against him. He has remained in custody since his arrest, and after comprehensive investigations, the court confirmed his involvement in money laundering and the violation of immigration laws.
In a hearing held this week, the Honourable Magistrate Court reviewed Mr. Alexander’s case and granted him bail under strict legal conditions as follows:
Payment of a bail bond in the amount of €17,500 (Seventeen Thousand Five Hundred Euros) which was granted on 13th June 2025. Provision of a government employed pensioner or recognized civil servant as a guarantor to ensure compliance with future court obligations
Once these conditions are fulfilled, Mr. Alexander will be permitted to begin processing the release of his belongings and complete the necessary documentation for lawful departure from the country.
